The brain is a marvelous thing. Don't put it in a box.
Via Cognitive Health specializes in programming for Mild Cognitive Impairment and early to middle stages of dementia (Alzheimer's, Vascular Dementia, or other related cognitive decline disorders). The Center is located in Augusta and is open Monday - Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Our Program
Our curriculum is multi-targeted with sessions throughout the day that work your brain and body and to help you live your best life possible.
Via Cognitive Health programming is designed to combat Alzheimer's with a path to:
- engage and challenge the mind
- create a network of support with others in this journey
- keep the body healthy and active and/or improve health
- create a diverse day that is anything but routine
- give opportunities to work or volunteer
- activate neurons to help better tolerate symptoms of dementia
Sessions are varied each day, but always include exercise, cognitive stimulation therapy, meaningful projects, interesting and engaging presentations and dialogue, brain workouts, and more.
Programs are delivered by expert staff trained in dementia programming. An RN is on site each day.
Participants attend on a pre-scheduled basis.
Why now? Why early?
Our programs are targeted to maintaining health so that individuals do not become depressed, isolated, or in poor physical shape-all factors that have been shown to speed up decline, heighten the risk of falls, and increase hospitalizations.
Testimonials from Families
My mother, Connie, was only 59 when she received her diagnosis, and for five years, my family and I felt powerless as we watched her decline. That was until we found Via Cognitive Health, and we are eternally grateful that we did. The staff and members have given her a sense of belonging that had been missing from her life, and she feels like she's part of the best club in town. With the engaging games, rigorous workouts, and meaningful conversations, she's regained a confidence and purpose that I haven't seen in years. My mother, now 64, has started playing with her grandkids again, going out with friends, and wearing makeup, all the things that Alzheimer's had taken from her. She's gained a new lease on life and feels like she has a purpose again. As her caregiver and daughter, I cannot express how grateful I am for the gift of time Via has given us.
Our father was diagnosed first with Alzheimer's and soon after, our mother was diagnosed with dementia. Both our parents were not able to drive per the doctor's instructions. Depression set in due to lack of independence from being able to go out when they wanted to. A friend referred us to the Jud C. Hickey Center (Via Cognitive Health). Both our parents were reluctant to start, but now look forward to their weekly visits to the Center. Mom and Dad are always dressed and ready for their outings to the center with "let's go" attitude. On the way home, they both can't stop talking about the activities and how much fun they had that day. Their improvement in their zest for life has been remarkable. We had a caregiver that came in the home, and I saw he was declining and depressed. He can't turn his brain off-he needs intellectual stimulation and human interaction. The Jud C. Hickey Center (Via Cognitive Health) changed his whole demeanor.
